Being around like-minded people is priceless…

Who we can support

Apply to become a Member of the Royal Navy Royal Marines Widows’ Association (RNRMWA) and you will join a network of widows and widowers who truly understand bereavement. We attend events (any excuse for a new dress and or hat!), produce a Newsletter to share relevant information, interact via social media pages and closed groups and we seek opportunities to meet socially.

Do you have skills, time and a willingness to make a difference by contributing to our committee?  We would love you to join us to help provide:

Facebook Page and Facebook Group

We have a Facebook page where you will find updates and news.  We also have a private Facebook group, only for members, where you can interact with others to make friends and share experiences.

Telephone Support

We are not trained Counsellors however we are delighted to talk if you need help with any practical issues or require information. Our Befrienders have been through bereavement and can relate to how you may be feeling…after weeks, months or years after loss.

Signposting

As an established Association we have contacts with a range of organisations and charities all of whom want to help. If we don’t know the answer to your question we will know someone who does! We have a wealth of information and resources that we can share with you.

Be-friending Service

We encourage members to be proactive and form friendships or social groups local to them. To ensure confidentiality and the security of personal information we will, with permission, put you in touch with a Member in your area and or someone you can relate to. Matching members has been really successful, and friendships have formed often through particularly difficult times, some have flourished into years and into happier times.

Socialising and inspiring others

We explore opportunities to get together and have had wonderful weekends away providing a chance to relax and chat with like-minded people: activities and breaks for children also bring members together.

Are you taking on a personal challenge?…it is always worth exploring if others would like to join or support you. Motivation and inspiration are actively encouraged!

News and Updates

We send out a Newsletter (conscious not to exclude those not online, this can be sent by post) to share relevant information and encourage members to contribute. The Facebook page is updated on a regular basis and feedback from meetings is shared to ensure you have the opportunity to ensure the Association remains relevant and current.

Representation

Our real-life experiences are much valued, and we work with the Royal Navy and Royal Marines and Ministry of Defence to improve support for Widows, Widowers and recognised partners. We ensure that the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Widows have a voice in the relevant Ministry of Defence led forums and with other organisations.

The Association is managed by volunteers, many of whom have experienced loss or maintain personal connections to the Royal Navy.
